We want to encourage more active involvement by local communities in the development of clean energy and in the decarbonization process, launching investment initiatives that are open to all citizens. Sustainability is guiding us to every project phase and has allowed us to confirm our leadership in the energy transition in 2020, creating value for all stakeholders and continuing to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Some of the main priority issues identified and analyzed covering all 17 SDGs  in 2020 are Occupational health and safety, Ecosystems and platforms, Energy distribution and Decarbonization of the energy mix.

In Enel Group Sustainability is in the core strategy and the Principles of Sustainable Development determine its operation. Enel Group operates responsibly worldwide with a commitment to the corporate vision and respect for the wider society and the natural environment, while the development of important synergies, in this context, is vital for the fulfillment of the company's goals, in line with the context of its values. To this end, it implements and develops procedures, policies, tools and mechanisms for managing corporate risk and regulatory compliance, human rights and business continuity.

Strategic factors in the planning, implementation and development of Enel's operations include protecting the environment and natural resources, tackling climate change and contributing towards sustainable economic development. Enel since 1996 has an environmental policy in place, based on 4 fundamental principles, prevention for environmental protection, environmental sustainability on products and services, creating shared value for the company and the stakeholders and meeting legal compliance obligations and voluntary commitments.

Responsible community relations constitute a pillar of Enel’s strategy globally. Constantly and proactively considering the needs and priorities of society makes it possible to accept new challenges and redefine an increasingly competitive business model, developing new creating shared value strategies and innovating in processes, also through scalable solutions.

Specifically during a difficult year, 2020 the year of the Covid -19 pandemic, we were able to act immediately and support vulnerable group of people, the national health system and our people.
